Business-related parking fees and toll charges.
Tax Form
Schedule C, Line 9
Estimated Savings
$50-500/year
IRS Reference
Publication 463
How It Works
Parking fees and tolls paid for business purposes are fully deductible in addition to either the standard mileage deduction or actual vehicle expenses. Unlike other vehicle costs, parking and tolls are not included in the standard mileage rate, so you can deduct them separately.
IRS Rules & Requirements
- Business parking fees are fully deductible
- Toll charges for business travel are deductible
- Can claim these IN ADDITION to standard mileage deduction
- Commuting parking (to regular workplace) is NOT deductible
- Keep receipts or records of parking and toll expenses
Real Examples
Parking for client meeting at $20 = fully deductible
Tolls driving to content shoot location at $15 = fully deductible
Annual parking fees for business errands totaling $300 = deductible
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Thinking parking/tolls are included in standard mileage rate
- Deducting commuting parking to regular workplace
- Not keeping receipts for parking expenses
Pro Tip
